Library to Host Scrapbooking

Youngsters can create a school spirit scrapbook page and pick up tips at a workshop at the Palm Springs Public Library.
The Tween Scrapbooking Workshop, which is designed for children between the ages of eight and 12, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the library, 300 South Sunrise in Palm Springs.

No experience is required and all materials are provided at the free event.

Students can bring recent photos from school to include them a scrapbook.

Workshop leaders will take Polaroid photos of participants, which can be used for scrapbooking.

The library has a die cut machine, paint, scrapbook paper and a variety of other resources.

Library officials said the event is part of an effort to reach out to elementary-aged students. The library has a special room designed for teenagers and offers story times for younger children.

“This is an audience that we seem to be missing,” said Nancy Valdivia, children’s librarian. “We wanted to offer something that they would enjoy - something that was designed just for them.”

Valdivia said she thinks children will enjoy having opportunities to interact with peers and also to learn from each other.

“This is a great opportunity for them to meet other kids their age and to explore a different type of art,” she said.

“Scrapbooking is a great way to express themselves and what they might be feeling. They can discover a lot about themselves from doing it.
