CEDAR LAKE | Turning memories into masterpieces was the goal of a scrapbooking class offered Wednesday at the Cedar Lake branch of the Lake County Public Library.
Crown Point resident Alexandra Schau, 10, who loves cats and taking picture of them, brought her photographs with her to create her scrapbook. Her mom, Debbie, brought shoe boxes full of family photos to build her scrapbooks.
“I hope to show them to grandchildren and hopefully great-grandchildren one day,” Debbie Schau said as she cut and pasted shapes for her book.
Instructor Cynthia Kramer taught those in the class how to use colored inks, stamps and paper picture frames to customize their scrapbook.
“Each is unique. Each page is its own work of art,” Kramer said.
Student Jen Sikma planned to scrapbook her children’s birthday pictures, while scrapbooking veteran Laurie Edwards was working on her 20th book.
Amberly Kulpa, 14, of Cedar Lake, said she finds scrapbooking fun and plans on putting together a book chronicling her adventures on a family vacation to Gun Town Mountain in Kentucky. She hopes to one day show the scrapbook full of vacation memories to her grandchildren. Her mom, Kim Kulpa, created a book of memories from the 650 photos her sister took at Kim’s recent wedding.
“It will be fun to one day show my grandchildren what their parents looked like and how they acted when they were young,” she said.
