Digital Scrapbooking Club adds second branch

THE VILLAGES — Dual membership costs a little more, but the perks are worth the extra $5.
“I’ll learn more things, Maureen Clark said, “because we’re learning in both chapters.
Clark, a Village of Bonnybrook resident, is among the charter members of the Pimlico Chapter of the Digital Scrapbooking Club, which met for the first time Tuesday at Pimlico Recreation Center. She is the group’s co-vice president.
Residents who already were members of the Digital Scrapbooking Club were welcome to retain those memberships while registering for the club’s new, second branch. The original Digital Scrapbooking Club began meeting three years ago at Mulberry Grove Recreation Center.
“We are one club with two chapters, president Margie Whiddon said.
At a time when some Villages clubs are winding down activities for the coming summer months, this one is just getting started.
Janet Bohl of the Village of Virginia Trace had done some computer work with digital images and was eager to put them in scrapbook form. She was glad for the chance to stay close to home and learn more about the hobby.
“Working with a group, Bohl said, “is always an inspiration to do something.
According to Whiddon, a Village of Mira Mesa resident, the second chapter was added for two main reasons: To meet the needs of people living south of County Road 466 and to lessen meeting time conflicts.
“And we were growing, Whiddon said. “To grow, you divide.
The membership fee for just one chapter is $5. It is double that for both chapters. Vice president Brenda Whitehurst said dual membership entitles digital scrapbookers to twice the information of residents with single membership.
Learning sessions for the Pimlico chapter and the Mulberry Grove chapter have been designed to have their own content.
“They will not coincide with each other, said Whitehurst of the Village of Winifred. “It’s totally separate.
The Pimlico group learned from Whitehurst, Barbara Grill and Clark on Tuesday how to make a photo spinner, photo box and greeting card, respectively.
